PANCHAVATI – Temple of Meditation

Ramakrishna Mission in Malaysia came into existence in 2001, carrying forward the universal ideals of spiritual awareness, service, and harmony as envisioned by Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda.

In the life of Sri Ramakrishna, PANCHAVATI at Dakshineswar (Kolkata, India) held deep spiritual significance, serving as the sacred setting for many of his most profound realizations.

Guided by Swami Vivekananda’s timeless insight, “The greatest help to spiritual life is meditation,” Ramakrishna Mission envisioned a sacred space dedicated to inner peace, contemplation, and self-realisation. This vision gave birth to PANCHAVATI — a serene, eco-friendly Temple of Meditation nestled in nature, radiating stillness and spiritual depth.

At the heart of PANCHAVATI stands a sanctified shrine enshrining the holy images of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda — inviting seekers to reflect upon the divine presence within and without.

Architecturally, PANCHAVATI is a harmonious blend of simplicity and elegance. Its octagonal walls, crafted from clay ventilation bricks, allow natural light and fresh air to permeate the space, creating a calm and gentle environment. The black granite flooring, naturally cool to the touch, enhances the meditative atmosphere,  grounding the mind and calming the senses.

Though modest in scale, the temple’s design evokes a profound sense of vastness and inner expansion, reminding every visitor of the boundless nature of the Self. With its environmentally sustainable design, PANCHAVATI also stands as a symbol of reverence for the Earth — aligning with Ramakrishna Mission’s ethos of unity between the spiritual and natural worlds.

Today, PANCHAVATI serves as the spiritual nucleus of Ramakrishna Mission in Malaysia — a sacred space where individuals from all walks of life come to meditate, reflect, and reconnect with the Divine. Revered Swami Supriyananda, a monk of the Ramakrishna Order, currently serves as its president.

KALPATARU – Bookshop

KALPATARU, the divine wish-fulfilling tree, holds deep spiritual significance in the life of Sri Ramakrishna — particularly in relation to January 1, 1886, celebrated as Kalpataru Day. On this sacred day, Sri Ramakrishna blessed his devotees with the words:

“May you be spiritually illumined.” Echoing this spirit of inner awakening, Sri Sarada Devi advised: “Whenever you get an opportunity, seek holy company. In the absence of that, read good books.”

In line with this profound guidance — and inspired by the ideal of spreading spiritual light through sacred knowledge — Ramakrishna Mission Malaysia has launched a bookshop named KALPATARU: A humble effort to offer seekers access to uplifting literature on Ramakrishna-Vivekananda and Vedanta.

NAHABAT – Selfless Service

NAHABAT was a small, one-room space where Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi stayed during her time at Dakshineswar.

This sacred place reflects the essence of the Holy Mother’s nature — humility, selfless service, and spiritual strength. Hidden from public view, she silently emerged as the spiritual mother to countless devotees.

Inspired by her example of selfless service, anyone who feels called and wishes to volunteer their time and energy may reach out to Ramakrishna Mission in person.
